Timothy Sent to Thessalonica
1 Thessalonians 3:1-5
(1) Therefore, when we could bear it no longer we decided that it was best to stay by ourselves in Athens. (2) We sent Timothy, who is our brother and ministry partner in God’s service in spreading the gospel (good news) of Christ, to strengthen and encourage your faith, (3) so that no one would be troubled and unsettled by these trials. For you all know very well that we are destined to suffer. (4) In fact, when we were with you we kept telling you that we will always suffer persecution. And this has come true, as you well know. (5) So when I could stand it no longer, I sent Timothy to Thessalonica to find out about your faith. I was afraid that in some way Satan, the great tempter, had deceived you and that all of our hard work might have been done in vain.
Timothy’s Good Report
1 Thessalonians 3:6-9
(6) But Timothy has just returned to us in Corinth and has given us a great report about your faith and love. He told us that you always have good memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also want to see you! (7) Therefore, my brothers and sisters, in all our trouble and persecution we are now encouraged because of your faith. (8) For now we really live, since you are standing strong in the Lord. (9) We can’t thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in God’s presence because of you.
Prayer for the Thessalonian Church
1 Thessalonians 3:10-13
(10) We want you to know that we pray day and night with great energy so that we might visit you again and supply what is lacking in your faith. (11) Now may God the Father and our Lord Jesus make a clear way for us to visit you soon. (12) We pray that the Lord will cause your love to grow and overflow for one another and for all people, just as our love does for you. (13) We pray that God will strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy people.
